Canned Goods Scrimmages - Friday Night

The Hay Springs Hawks will be having there annual Soap Scrimmages on Friday August, 24th. The football scrimmage will be held at 4 o’clock pm and the volleyball scrimmage will be at 5:30. If you want to get into the games please bring one can of food per person. The cans of food will go to stock the food shelves. We hope to see everyone there!!!!

Hawks Play in Paxton on Saturday

Saturday Hawks will play in Paxton, traveling all the way from Hay Springs to Paxton. After the hawks 40 to 8 win in the JV game against Hemingford. Hawks feel very confident about the game on Saturday. This week there are going to be very intense practices to get fully prepared for the game on Saturday.

Hawks Still Looking For First Win

The Hawks football team is still looking for their first win of the season after dropping a 62-24 decision to Cody-Kilgore Friday night at home. The Cowboys jumped out to a 28-0 first quarter lead before the Hawks got on the board in the second quarter on a 54 yard Isaac H. run. Isaac scored again in the second quarter on a 12 yard run while Heath L. was responsible for scoring both of the Hawks 2 points conversions. Unfortunately the Hawks were unable to control the Cowboys offense as they extended their lead to 34 points in the second 50-16. Cody-Kilgore scored 12 in the third quarter while the Hawks score on a 9 yard pass from Tanner L. to Heath L. The final score for the Hawks came in the fourth quarter when Cody-Kilgore snapped the ball out of the endzone to give the Hawks a safety. "Once again the big plays hurt us, said Coach Chad M. "Our defense played very tough but gave up some big plays that put a lot of points on the board for Cody-Kilgore. We had a lot better success moving the ball this week in the rushing game and broke a few big ones ourselves. Everybody played hard and gave 100 percent. Cody-Kilgore is a good team with a lot of depth and well coached."

Isaac H. finished with 122 yards rushing on 9 carries and caught 2 passes for 42 yards, while Heath L. added 53 yards on 11 carries. Tanner L. completed 2 passes for 12 yards and one touchdown and Trenton K. completed 1 pass for 39 yards.

Defensively JW S. led the Hawks in tackles with 10 unassisted and 1 assisted tackle. Heath L. also had 11 tackles, 9 unassisted and 2 assisted. Isaac H. and Heath L. each also recovered 1 fumble.

The Hawks will be back in action on Saturday at Paxton. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m

Early Hole Dooms Hawks

The Hawks fell into an early hole to the Edgemont Moguls Friday night at home and spent the rest of the night playing from behind. The Moguls scored on two quick drives early in the first quarter to lead 16-0 before the Hawks scored their only touchdown of the game on a 57 yard kick return by Isaac H. Edgemont scored touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters to take the 30-6 victory. "We let Edgemont get an early lead on us and it was tough to come back," said Coach Morisett. "Our offense would get a good drive going and then stall on their side of the field. We need to work on finishing our drives." Offensively the Hawks were led on the ground by Isaac with 73 yards on 16 carries. Leading the Hawks receivers was JW S. with 1 reception for 52 yards. Isaac and Lars B. each also caught one pass. Tanner L. passed for 75 yards completing 5 of 14 passes. Defensively the Hawks were led by Isaac with 8 unassisted tackles and 2 assisted. He also recovered an Edgemont fumble. Lars finished with 7 tackles and Bryce L. also recovered a fumble. The Hawks will play at home again on Friday night against Cody-Kilgore. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.


Hawks Lose to Mullen

The Hawks started their season off Friday night against a tough Mullen Broncos team and fell 59-8. Some early turnovers in the first quarter by the Hawks put them in a hole that they were unable to dig out of. Offensively The Hawks only score of the game came on a 22 yard touchdown pass from Tanner L. to Isaac H. Isaac H. also scored the two point conversion. Tanner L. completed 5 of 11 passes for 108 yards and 1 touchdown. On the Receiving end of those passes was Isaac H. with 3 receptions for 57 yards and Lars B. with 2 receptions for 51 yards. The Hawks managed just 12 yards rushing. Defensively Travis K. led the tacklers with 10 unassisted and 3 assisted tackles. Terry B. added 7 unassisted and 3 assisted. Trenton K. recovered one fumble to assist the defense. "We just couldn't seem to establish a running game," said Coach Chad Morsett. "Mullen has a very good team with not many weaknesses. Now that our younger starters have a game under their belts, we got a good look at what we need to work on for the upcoming week. We need to work on ball control and line blocking."

The Hawks next game is against the Edgemont Moguls on Friday in Hay Springs. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.

The Hawks are still struggling to get their first win of the season after dropping a 42-14 decision to the Paxton Tigers on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks held tough in the first quarter allowing Paxton just 14 points but not reaching the end zone themselves. It was the second quarter that doomed the Hawks when they allowed Paxton to score twenty points to take a 34-6 halftime lead. The Hawks only score of the half came on a 33 yard pass from Tanner L. to Lars B. The Hawks held the Tigers to just 8 points in the second half but only scored 8 of their own. Their second score was a 4 yard run by Heath L. Heath also scored the two point conversion. "We lost this
Game having no excuses," said Coach Chad Morsett. "Paxton played very well, but we should have stayed in the game. We did not execute on the field what we had been working on all week in preparation." Statistically Heath L. rushed for 61 yards on 13 carries and 1 touchdown. In the air Tanner L. completed 2 passes for 70 yards. Defensively JW S. led with 10 tackles while Heath L. added 9.
The Hawks will host Banner County Friday night for Homecoming. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.

The Hawks saw their losing streak continue Friday night losing their homecoming match-up against Banner County 56-18. The Wildcats scored 22 points in each of the first two quarters to take a 44-6 halftime lead. The Hawks first two scores came on passes from Isaac H. to Lars B. and Heath L.. In the third quarter the Wildcats posted twelve points and in the fourth the Hawks added the only remaining score to the scoreboard on a 1 yard run by Isaac H.. "We went into this game knowing that Banner County was a good football team," said Coach Chad M.. "They had a really good run defense so we went to the pass. We were able to slip a few by them and got some points on the board. If we play as hard as we did tonight, we will do well next week." Offensively the Hawks did their damage through the air with 119 yard passing. Isaac H. was 4 of 12 passing for 107 yards while Tanner L. finished with the remaining 12 yards on 1 of 9 passing. Heath L. had two catches for 89 yards and 1 touchdown and Lars B. had 18 yards on 1 reception for 1 touchdown. Defensively JW S. led the Hawks in tackles with 11. Lars B. finished with 6. The Hawks will travel to Harrison on Friday for a match-up with the Sioux County Warriors. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.





Hawks Battle Longhorns



The Hawks and the Hyannis Longhorns battled Friday night in Hyannis with the Hawks coming out on the short end of the stick 50-26. Hyannis jumped out to a quick 22-0 first quarter lead, taking advantage Hawk turnovers before the Hawks finally scored on a 64 yard pass from Isaac H. to Heath L. and the Hawks trailed 22-6 at the end of the first. Each team scored in the second quarter with the Hawks scoring from the 1 yard line on a quarterback keeper by Isaac. The Hawks scored first in the second half on a 59 yardpass from Isaac to Lars B. to pull to within 10, 28-18. The Hawks didn't have long to celebrate as the Longhorns took the kickoff all the way for the touchdown and setting off a 22 point run by the Longhorns. The Hawks final score came in the fourth quarter when Isaac scored on a 7 yard run. "Statistically, this was our best game of the year," said Coach Chad M. "It was a close game up until the third quarter when Hyannis started to move the ball well again and we couldn't stop them."
Offensively the Hawks moved the ball most effectively through the air with 180 yards passing, led by Isaac with 167 yards passing on 5 of 16 attempts and 2 touchdowns. On the receiving end of those passes were Lars with 4 catches for 91 yards and Heath with 2 catches for 89 yards and 1 touchdown each. Isaac also rushed for 66 yards and 2 touchdowns while Heath added 35 yards on 13 carries. Defensively, Wacey S. led the Hawks with 11 tackles and 2 sacks. Travis K. added 9 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 sack. JW S. and Isaac intercepted 2 and 1 passes respectively.
The Hawks will finish the regular season on Thursday when they host the Potter-Dix Coyotes. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
