On Friday the 11th of December, the Swing Choir hosted the Nights the Lights and the Music. Both Swing Choir groups preformed in the light show. The two groups preformed a total of 12 songs. The songs were Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, The Night Before Christmas, Feliz Navidad, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, Last Christmas, The Christmas Song, Winter Wonderland, White Christmas, Little St. Nick, Sleigh Ride, Silent Night, and The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. They used an array of lighting gizmos for each song. Also, during the show, right after the intermission, Mrs. Jensen announced each group’s members. They had to dance across the stage doing a funky dance in the black light with white gloves, so they really had to dance with their hands.
All in all, the Swing Choir Light Show was a very well put together performance and it was also very interesting.

What is Swing Choir? Swing Choir is a group that sings and dances. Also, they compete in competitions, but they do many public performances in the community of Hay Springs. Some of the performances they do are the light show, the Halloween bbq, and many school concerts. This year there are two Swing Choir groups : Limewire and SoundFx. The members of Limewire are Tanner, Heath, Travis, Chris, Wacey, Kyle, Tabi, Kelsey, Tauna, Bre, Rachel, and Brook. Limewire practices every Wednesday at 7 a.m. They all wear lime green dresses and outfits. The members of SoundFx include Tanner, Heath, Travis, Chris, Regg, Logan, Zoe, Tabi, Rachel, Shelby, Laurin, Michaela, and Kerisa. SoundFx practices every Thursday morning at 7a.m. They wear pink and black dresses and outfits.
Swing Choir gives you an opportunity to express yourself, showcase talent and have fun. In Swing Choir you learn a variety of music and choreography. An important concept in Swing Choir is that TEAM IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN AN INDIVIDUAL. Also we do Swing Choir to entertain the public and to compete in competitions.
Mrs. Jensen tries to pick themes and keep to contrasting genres. Also she tries to pick slow and fast beat songs so the members have a variety to dance to and learn the different styles of dance and rhythms of the songs. How does Mrs. Jensen make up dance moves? She goes to performances and music conventions and watches other swing choirs in different areas. Also, she researches moves on You Tube.
When selecting who dances with whom, Mrs. Jensen picks the partners by height. She puts the strong performers in the front, and also she tries to make sure everyone gets a partner and that you don’t dance with the same person for a different song.
So now we all know what Swing Choir is and does it. We know who’s in it and how the moves and partners are selected. Now let’s go watch Limewire and SoundFx and enjoy all of the talent!!!!

On Saturday the 5th of December the Hay Springs Swing Choir had a lock in at the high school following the basketball games. Everyone had to be in the school a half an hour after the last basketball game was over. While we waited for everyone to show up we watched the Husker game and got ready to take pictures. After the game was over and the Huskers lost, sadly, everyone HAD to get ready so that we could take our group pictures.
After the pictures we all changed into our comfy clothes and we started to practice for the light show. We practiced for the light show for a couple hours and then we took a break to play hide and seek in the dark. We all split up into groups and hid. The high school is a very spooky place to be at night! The best hiding spot was in the old auditorium, because it was very dark since there was not a single light in there! After about an hour or so of that game Mrs. Jensen called us all back and took the Lime Wire group so that they could practice their songs. While they practiced the others played some more hide and seek and munched on cookies and all sorts of other very unhealthy foods and drinks. After awhile she called in the Sound FX group and they practiced and the other group munched.
After each group practiced we played more hide and seek. One time we were walking into the old auditorium and Tabi was hiding behind the trash can. Tanner had a monkey mask and he was wearing all black and he jumped out and scared Tabi so badly that she screamed and threw her food. All of us are sure that the school is haunted because of that night! Everyone went to bed around 4:30am or soon after that. Mrs. Jensen made us get up at 7:30am THAT SAME MORNING!!!! We practiced for another hour or so and then we finally got to go home. Overall the night was very eventful and exciting. We can’t wait to do it again.
