These Little Piggies Like to Play in Mud!!!

Here piggy, piggy, piggy!!!! Where are you my little piggy? On Saturday August 28, 2010 at 2:00p.m. during Friendly Festival Trampas B. and Travis B. held the 2nd annual Greased Pig Wrestling Contest at the air port. There were 23 adult men and women teams plus many kids competing in the contest. The pigs weighed between 60-100 pounds and were greased. The pigs and teams went into an extremely muddy pen. To begin the contest each team was auctioned off. The prizes that the teams won were a pink shirt that said “2010 Greased Pig Champs” on it and 100 dollars to split between the two. The winners of each category were: in the women Heather H. and Holly S., in the men Randy and Ryan T., and in the kids Jada Pieper. Congratulations to all the winners and good luck next year!!!!!

The Pony Expresso or.. The Villain Came To A Grinding Halt

“A horse is like a cup of coffee, if it has a good kick it’ll get you going” lines like this one, spoken by Barb Dwyer, were common throughout the August 27th performance of The Pony Expresso or… The Villain Came To a Grinding Halt. Mrs. Flick had the great idea to feature the play for a fundraiser supporting the HSHS theatre department and she thought it would be fantastic entertainment for Friendly Festival.

The cast members included, Erika G. as “Star Bright”; Cynthia R. as “Buck Brawn”; Fred J. as “Mo Cabana”; Toi Lyn F. as “Fifi Latte”; Jane D. as “Dee Caff”; Alberta O. as the “Narrator”; Amanda D. as “Barb Dwyer”; Zoe S. as “Doc Cappuccino”; Linda R. as “Mayor Rich Coffey”; Derek F. as “Palomino Paul”; Alexis O. as “Appaloosa Annie”; Gage F. as “Irish Coffey”; Lisa H. as “Sugar”; Lori S. as “Spice”; and Mattie J. & Sydney T. as the CCOO’s (Cue Card Operational Officers).

“It was a great deal of fun with the practices and performances, all of it was just fun. At every practice someone wound up in a laughing fit!” said Mrs. Flick who thought the turn out for the melodrama was good.
Mrs. Houser volunteered to be the prompter for the people who forgot their lines. Mrs. Houser says she enjoyed it, they were a great bunch of people to work with and if she was asked to do it again she absolutely would. A couple high school students at HSH said they enjoyed the play and that it was pretty good.

The Melodrama had a great audience and was a great way to start off Friendly Festival. The HSHS theatre department says “Thanks a bunch!” to everyone who came to watch.

First day hallway confusion!

It's that time again!

It’s that time again!! It’s school time!! To start off the first day of school we had an assembly where we went over the hand book, met the new teachers, and got our class schedules.
After the assembly, each class met in a home room and decided who was going to be class president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, and student council representative. After that we went to each class for about 20 minutes to end the first day of school at noon.
Over all the half a day went well. The new teachers were great, and I’m sure we are all looking forward to a fresh new year!

WELCOME BACK!

Welcome back to Hay Springs Schools everyone! Hopefully you had a good summer. This school year is going to be a wonderful mixture of elevated learning, successful activities and new experiences! So hold on to your hats everyone and lets get the 2010-2011 school year started!

To kick things off, HSHS has several new teachers. Mrs. Diane Avery is now the preschool teacher, the elementary welcomes Mrs. Amy McAllister, and Mr. Jerry Janes and Mrs. Marga Janes have joined the high school staff. Mrs. Joy Houser has returned to Hawk territory, and she is currently substitute teaching for Mrs. Wiesler's classes.

Friendly Festival is this week, and there are numerous events surrounding this annual celebration. Those specifically associated with the school are the football scrimmage Thursday night at 6pm and the melodrama Friday at 7pm. Proceeds from the melodrama go to support the high school One Act team and the all-school play, so come and enjoy the fun for a couple of worthy causes!

The journalism class is responsible for the yearbook and the web page. This class consists of three students who will be working diligently to give you the best possible yearbook and to keep the web page fresh and enticing to readers. So while it may look bare right now, in a short while the web page will be filling up with information and stories.

Once again, welcome back Hawks! We're ready to soar into another great year!
