It's slime time for the chemistry class and the 2nd and 3rd graders.
Have you ever made slime? Well Hay Springs students have!!! The Hay Springs 2nd and 3rd graders along with the chemistry class made Christmas slime just before Christmas break. To make “Christmas slime” they dyed the slime green and red. Mr. Planansky, the chemistry teacher, said that the reason that they made slime was as a project to teach the elementary about science. To make the slime they took strands of polyvinyl alcohol and crossed it with borax. Next they dyed it green and red. The grade schoolers made it in the lab along with the chemistry class made up of juniors and seniors.
All in all, the slime was a very fun project for the 2nd and 3rd graders. They learned a lot about science, and the chemistry students got to be teachers-for-a-day!

Lady Capulet demands justice!
The following script was a recent English 9 assignment. The students did a rewrite of a scene from Romeo and Juliet. Once the rewrite was completed, they acted out the scene using the more current dialogue.
Benvolio: Please Mercutio, let’s stop. It is hot out and the Capulets are here. If we meet we will not escape a fight, but now it is hot, the blood is stirring. Mercutio: You are telling me that you don’t want to fight! You fight with anyone over anything! Benvolio: What the heck? I’m not like that. Mercutio: Someone woke up on the wrong side of the rock. Benvolio: Whatever. Mercutio: Whatever. Benvolio: Here come the Capulets. Mercutio: I really don’t care! Tybalt: (to his companions) I’ll do the talking, you guys just stay quiet. (To Benvolio and Mercutio) Hey…can I talk to one of you? Mercutio: A word with us? Tybalt: We will not fight unless you give us reason to. Mercutio: You don’t give us a reason to fight. Tybalt: Mercutio, do you talk to Romeo? Mercutio: Who do you think I am? I’m not his babysitter. Benvolio: We should go somewhere private or not talk anymore. Everyone is staring at us. Mercutio: I will not leave just because you want to. Let them stare. (Romeo enters) Tybalt: Here’s the guy I’m looking for. Mercutio: You’ll be sorry you found him. Tybalt: (To Romeo) Romeo you are a scumbag! Romeo: Excuse me for not being angry because you don’t know me. Tybalt: This does not excuse what you have done to me so bring it. Romeo: I haven’t done anything to you, but love you more than you can imagine. The reason of my love you do not know. Mercutio: Don’t be a girl! You’re scared. Tybalt: I am for you. Romeo: Calm down Mercutio. Put away the sword. Ben, help me get these two apart. (Tybalt and Mercutio fight. Mercutio is hurt.) Mercutio: I’ve been hurt. I hope both the Capulets and the Montagues die a horrible death. I am done. Romeo: It ain’t that much. Mercutio: Well thanks to you I’m hurt. I was cut under your arm. Romeo: Sorry. Benvolio: Hey Romeo! Mercutio died. He went belly up. I mean he just kicked the bucket! Here comes Tybalt. (Tybalt enters) Romeo: You just killed Mercutio and yet you’re happy about it! Tybalt: It’s because of you that he’s dead! Romeo: It’s my fault he is dead. I’ve ruined my reputation. Juliet has made me soft. Tybalt must die! Tybalt: Boy, you’re dead! Romeo: We’ll see about that! (They fight. Tybalt is slain.) Benvolio: Why are you still here! Romeo: I am a fool! Benvolio: Run! The prince is coming! (Romeo exits) Citizen: Where is Tybalt the murderer of Mercutio? Benvolio: There on the ground. Prince: What happened? Benvolio: Tybalt was killed by Romeo because Tybalt killed Mercutio. Lady Capulet: (Coming forward) He is a friend of the Montagues. He lies to help them! I want justice! Prince: Romeo killed Tybalt and Tybalt killed Mercutio. Now who owes blood? Lord Montague: Not Romeo, he just finished what the law would. Prince: Yes, so I immediately exile him.

This year’s geography class, taught by Mrs. Flick, has started cooking food from around the world. They have found and researched recipes from Mexico, South America, and Central America. Also before they could start cooking they had to make a book about the countries they were given. The books had to include history and culture and the lifestyles of the country. Each group chose their own recipe and the recipes they chose to make were flan from Central America, chicken taquitos from Mexico, and beef stir fry from South America.
The first group that cooked was the flan group. It consisted of Kelsey, Michaela, Logan, and John. The flan took the longest to cook so we had to eat it on the day we had chicken taquitos. The flan was excellent. It was like a custard with caramel on top.
The second group to cook was the taquitos group. It consisted of Regg, Elizabeth, Sage, Albert, and Tauna. The taquitos were very delicious. The taquitos were served with salsa and sour cream.
The last group to cook was the beef stir fry group. It consisted of Jake, Trent, Brook, Savannah, Jensen , and Jarrian. The beef stir fry was superior, it was kind of spicy to some but it was not that bad.
All in all, the food from around the world has been very good so far.

This is the short story of my life.
I enjoy riding 4-wheelers, motor cycles, working on cars, and driving them. I own a Honda Civic but I‘m currently not driving it. I ride a 4-wheeler, and I like to do stunts on it.
A lot of my friends are guys who don’t live in or around Hay Springs. The majority of them are over the age of 18, and some drive, others don't and still others hate cars. But all most all of them are gamers.
I would like to travel the world and explore caves. I have been to Wind Cave and Carlsbad Caverns so far, but I would enjoy seeing them all, and getting to go spelunking in them.
I like to hang out with my friends, drive around, and go to concerts. My favorite band that I’ve been to is Fall From Grace. They are from Seattle, Washington.
I don’t really have any classes I enjoy because to me school is school. You do it to better yourself, but in some places it still doesn’t help. I don’t like all school because it pulls 8 hours a day out of my life. I could be doing something better!
My favorite childhood memory was when I was five and my uncle left the key in the 4-wheeler and I wanted to ride it so I learned how to ride it. I was 11 years younger than was recommended to ride it. I tried for 15 minutes before I got it to move. It surprised my mom, uncle, and cousin who never thought I could ride it on my own that young.
I thought that Friendly Festival was a good time to be with your families because there was a lot of time for bonding, for the young and old. My favorite activity was the parade because I got to see a couple friends in it.
